Mercurys were no longer named Mercury Eight—just Mercury. The one-millionth Mercury was a 1950 four-door sedan, and Mercurys were no longer called Mercury Eight—just Mercury. Mercury launched the Monterey Coupe to compete with GM and Chrysler two-door hardtops. It had a custom leather interior and a padded canvas or vinyl finish.This year, Mercurys won two NASCAR Grand National races, and the 1950 Indianapolis 500 featured Mercury as the official pace car.The 1950 Mercury sold 293,658 units, making it Mercury's second best year in terms of sales.
